Under leadership by Karuhiro Umehara, the division’s director, this educational material is designed to innovation the learning and teaching of Telemark skiing.
Innovative Telemark Skiing Textbook
The project, which began in 2018 under Umehara’s leadership, aims to address the gap in educational resources compatible with modern Telemark skiing equipment. This comprehensive textbook focuses on establishing a technical system for Telemark skiing, essential for both beginners and advanced practitioners. It covers the fundamental aspects of ski control, including positioning, edging, and balance, with an emphasis on mastering the sophisticated Telemark turn.
A distinctive feature of the curriculum is its focus on the alpine position. This approach teaches skiers to work effectively on both skis, a skill crucial for enhancing Telemark turn techniques. The textbook advocates learning ski operations in an alpine position before applying them to Telemark turns, a method particularly suitable for modern equipment specialized in downhill skiing.
“THE TELEMARK SKI” – Telemark Skiing book
caters to a wide range of learners, from novices to TAJ-certified instructors. It provides clear explanations on adapting to various slopes, speeds, and skill levels. Complementing the 160-page instruction book is an instructional video, accessible via a QR code, ensuring a dynamic and engaging learning experience.
Pre-Sale and Upcoming Availability of Telemark Skiing Textbook and Video
Currently on pre-sale at retail stores and TAJ schools in Japan, the textbook and video series are set to be available on mail order sites by mid-December. While there is no confirmation on international sales yet, Umehara has expressed openness to considering overseas distribution based on demand.
This release marks a significant stride in Telemark skiing education, promising to enhance the skills and enjoyment of enthusiasts and professionals alike.
