A Passion for Telemark Skiing

Pery’s telemark journey began in Verbier, where a weather delay in alpine training led him to try telemark skiing. Three days into the sport, he mastered challenging runs and never looked back, falling in love with its technique and freedom.

Racing Background and Transition to Officiating

Having raced both alpine and telemark in the British Army and as part of the GB team, Pery’s racing career was cut short by injury in 2008. Despite this, his passion for telemark skiing drove him to continue as an official, bringing his competitive insights to race management.

Continuing Andreja Jovan’s Legacy

Andreja Jovan’s leadership over two decades greatly elevated the professionalism and organization of telemark skiing events. Pery recognizes this legacy and aims to build on it by further advancing the sport’s standards, presentation, and media influence.

Future Goals: Elevating Telemark Skiing

Pery envisions growing the sport by improving event management and encouraging youth participation. His ultimate goal is for telemark to be included in the 2028 FIS Games, which would significantly boost the sport’s visibility and financial backing.

Maintaining Telemark’s Unique Camaraderie

One of Pery’s core values is preserving the camaraderie within telemark skiing. He reflects on how experienced racers help newcomers and believes maintaining this spirit is essential, even as the sport becomes more professional.
