The Premier Gathering of Telemark Skiers in the Midwest

Midwest Telefest is gearing up to bring together the largest gathering of Telemark skiers in the Midwest. Set in the picturesque Porcupine Mountains Ski Area near Ontonagon, Michigan, this annual event is a celebration of all things Telemark skiing, combining competitive races, social gatherings, and of course, endless opportunities to shred the gnar.

Midwest Telefest Highlights and Schedule

The festival runs from Friday, February 9th, to Sunday, February 11th, with activities and races planned throughout the weekend. Here’s what participants can look forward to:

Friday, February 9

  • All Day: Participants are invited to hit the slopes and enjoy the diverse terrain that Porcupine Mountains Ski Area offers.
  • 7:00 PM: The festivities kick off in the evening with the Higher Love Dance Party featuring Pert Near Sandstone, held at the American Legion in White Pine.

Saturday, February 10

  • All Day: Continue to explore and enjoy the slopes with fellow Telemark enthusiasts.
  • Demos: Try out the latest gear from Freeheel Life and other vendors who will be showcasing their products.
  • Gear Swap: A great opportunity to exchange or acquire new equipment.
  • Uphill/Downhill Race: A thrilling race that starts at the lodge and races up Hiawatha, then down a Super G race course.
  • Quills & Chills Mountain Race: An adventurous race up to the radio tower and back down.
  • Freeheel Life Smelly Kneepad Super G Race: A unique race for those with leather boots and long skis, where group starts and full contact are part of the fun.
  • Chili Contest: Participants can show off their cooking skills and enjoy a variety of delicious chili.
  • Potluck Dinner: A communal dining experience where everyone brings a dish to share.
  • Movie Contest Winners, Awards & Prizes: The day ends with recognition for outstanding participants and films from the Telefest community.

Sunday, February 11

  • All Day: The final day offers more time to enjoy the slopes and camaraderie of fellow Telemark skiers.
