Telemark Festival in Alpe Palù, Italy

The telemark community will gather once again in the Italian Alps for Piega Malenca – La Decade, a three-day telemark festival taking place on March 20–21–22, 2026, at Alpe Palù – Chiesa in Valmalenco, Italy.

Organized by the Piega Malenca Team, the event celebrates ten years of promoting telemark skiing culture, community spirit, and mountain passion. In 2026, the festival marks its tenth anniversary under the name “La Decade.”

Piega Malenca was created with one clear mission: to bring more and more people closer to the magical world of telemark skiing.

Telemark Festival in Valmalenco: What to Expect

Piega Malenca 2026 combines ski touring, lift-access skiing, equipment testing, telemark lessons, social gatherings, and cultural talks. The festival welcomes experienced free-heel skiers as well as newcomers who want to discover telemark technique in a friendly alpine environment.

March 20, 2026 – Ski Mountaineering & Alpine Culture

The festival begins on Friday morning with a ski mountaineering excursion.

At 7:00 AM, participants meet at the Vassalini sports field before heading into the mountains. The exact destination will be announced a few days before the event on official social media channels. It will depend on weather and snow conditions.

Certified Alpine Guides will accompany the group. Avalanche safety equipment is mandatory, including:

• Avalanche transceiver
• Shovel
• Probe

Registration for the excursion closes on March 18, 2026.

In the evening at 9:00 PM, mountaineer Marco Majori will present “Fitz Roy: a winter for Casarotto” at Hotel Tremoggia in Chiesa in Valmalenco. The talk will be introduced by local guides Paolo Masa and Bianco Lenatti.

Participants who register online can collect their official event pack during the evening.

March 21, 2026 – Telemark Skiing, Equipment Tests & Telemark Circus

Saturday is the core day of Piega Malenca 2026.

Accreditation and event pack pickup begin at 8:15 AM at the Snow Eagle cable car departure in Vassalini.

From 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, participants ski together at Alpe Palù. The day includes:

• Telemark lessons with experienced coaches
• Equipment testing opportunities
• Social skiing sessions

Starting at 11:00 AM, food and local specialties will be served at Piega Village in Alpe Palù.

Between 10:00 AM and 3:00 PM, the Telemark Circus – Telemark Without Borders will take place. This team-based game invites participants to explore the Palù ski resort in a creative and dynamic way.

At 4:00 PM, everyone gathers at Cima Motta for an aperitif accompanied by “Sviolinata.” Participants should plan their descent carefully, as the last chairlift will not wait.

The day concludes with a dinner and party featuring a DJ set by SiscoFly, bringing the telemark community together to celebrate.

March 22, 2026 – Kilometro Piegato & La Decade Celebration

Sunday continues with accreditation at 8:15 AM and skiing sessions from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM at Baita Flintstones, Alpe Palù.

At 10:30 AM, the playful race “Kilometro Piegato – Bent Kilometer” takes place. Participants are encouraged to wear old-style telemark clothing to honor tradition.

At 1:00 PM, the community gathers for beer and pizza accompanied by live accordions.

The festival concludes at 5:30 PM at Bar Sport Vassalini with the final celebration of “La Decade,” marking ten years of Piega Malenca.
