The FIS Telemark Race Hintertux 01-02 dec 2023, held at the picturesque Hintertux Glacier, was a spectacular showcase of telemark skiing. Accompanied by the Freeheeler Campus and the Tuxer Telemark Trainings Camp (TTTC), this event marked a significant moment in the world of telemark racing, attracting athletes from across the globe.
Training and Preparation: TTTC and Freeheeler Campus
In week 48, leading up to the FIS races and the Freeheeler European Opening (FEO), Hintertux transformed into a telemark training hub. The TTTC offered training slopes in the glacier ski area, where athletes could hone their skills in preparation for the upcoming competitions. Off-snow, participants engaged in the Freeheeler Campus, enriching their knowledge and technique in telemark skiing.
FIS Telemark Sprint: A Test of Speed and Agility
The FIS Telemark Sprint, held from 30th November to 2nd December 2023, was the main highlight. The event kicked off with an official training session on the FIS slope on 30th November, followed by the intense races on the 1st and 2nd of December. Athletes competed in various categories, showcasing their speed, agility, and grace in the unique discipline of telemark skiing.
Impressive Performances and Results
The competition was fierce, with athletes displaying top-notch skills. In the men’s sprint on 1st December, France’s Theo Sillon clinched the top spot with a time of 2:03.75, closely followed by fellow countryman Alexis Page and Elie Nabot. The women’s sprint saw France’s Laly Chaucheprat taking the lead, with Great Britain’s Jasmin Taylor and Norway’s Goril Strom Eriksen following suit.
Weather Challenges on the Final Day
The event’s final day, 2nd December, presented additional challenges due to adverse weather conditions. Despite this, the FIS sprint proceeded, albeit with only one run. The resilience and adaptability of the athletes were on full display, proving their dedication and love for the sport.
